The exams you are expected to pass within 2 years. Part 1 Theory and Hazard Perception - Part 2 Your ability to drive.  Part 3 Test of Instructional Ability

Part 1

The Part One test is a computer based theory/hazard perception test.You do not have to be a computer wizard to take this test as it is a 'touch screen' and you are allowed a practice session before starting. There are always staff present who will provide help if you need it.

You have to anwser 100 multiple choice questions, for each question there are four possible anwsers only one is correct. The Theory section of this test will be banded into four subject groups 1 - Road procedure 2 - Traffic signs and signals; car control; predestrians; and mechanical knowledge 3 - The driving test; disabilities; law 4 - Publications; instuctional techniques These questions are picked at random for each candidate The overall pass mark required for the theory is 85%. You will need to accumlate this score over the four bands and you need to score no less than 80% within each band (In other words you need to get at least 20 questions right in each band. If you get less than 20 right in any one band then you will fail the complete test).

Hazard Perception

You will be shown 14 video clips on the computer and you will be required to respond to the developing hazards contained within the clips, the sooner you respond the higher you will score. The pass mark required for the hazard perception test is 57 out of a possible 75. Both the Theory and the Hazard Perception must be passed. If you fail either part of the test then you will be required to resit both parts again.

You must pass the remaining two examinations within two years from the date you pass this examination.
