
Part 2
The part 2 test is a test of driving ability and is of an advanced nature therefore a very high standard of driving is required. You will be expected to demonstrate that you can drive in a brisk and business like manner showing a good understanding of the principles of good driving and road safety.
You must satisfy the examiner in all or any of the following:-

Expert handling of the controls Use of correct road procedure.

Anticipation of the actions of other road users and taking the appropriate action.

Sound judgement of speed, distance and timing.

Consideration for the convenience and safety of other road users.
You will cover a route which will cover a variety of different types of roads (rural, urban and dual carriageways/motorways). You will also be required to complete the set exercises such as the turn in the road etc; this test lasts about one hour.
You will also be asked by the examiner how to check on the condition and safety of three components of the vehicle and demonstrate an actual check on a further two.
Before the drive takes place an eyesight test will be carried out which you must pass, the requirements are to read a number plate from a distance of 27.5 metres. On the new style number plate the requirement is 26.5 metres.
At the end of the test the examiner will inform you of the result, pass or fail, and you will be given the assessment form where the examiner records any faults and will offer a verbal debrief. In order to pass this test you can accumalte no more than six driving faults (minor mistakes). if you get more than six or any fault of a serious or dangerous nature this will result in a fail and you will have to retake the test.
