Test of Ability to Instruct

 

 

Part 3

The part 3 test is a test of instructional ability, the purpose of this test is to ensure

a) that you can pass your knowledge on to your students.

b) to assess the qualitiy of the instruction given.

The test is conducted by a Supervising Examiner ADI (SEADI) and is conducted in two parts which take about 30 minutes for each part.

For phase one the examiner will role play a student who is a beginner or a student with limited knowledge.

For phase two the examiner will role play a student who is at test standard.

As of the 6th March 2006 the examiner can also role play a qualified driver undertraking driver developement.

You will be assessed on the following Core competencies:

  • Identify the fault
  • Analayise the fault
  • Remedial Action
  • Instructional techniques
  • Instructor characteristics

You will have to show that you have the ability to adapt your methods and the level of instruction to match the student so maximum learning takes place.

The examiner will grade each phase at the end of the test and inform you of the result pass or fail .

The examiner will offer a verbal debrief. A potential driving instructor (PDI) must demonstrate a competent overall performance of a grade 4 or above in each phase to pass the part 3 test.
